CECAF was founded in December 2002, with the occasion of the colloquium “Recent Phenomenological Researches in Cluj”, as a research institution affiliated to the Department of Philosophy of Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca. It gathers senior researchers and postgraduate students from these institution.

It aims to:

- support and conduct phenomenology-based researches in various fields of scientific interest. - foster a research community capable to provide concrete, theoretical or practical, answers to the problems which concerns Romanian society of today;

Therefore it:

- encourages an open dialogue with the other philosophical trends (postmodernism, hermeneutics, analytic philosophy, etc.) - promotes an inter- and multidisciplinary approach, in which theoretical perspectives and methods coming from various social sciences are engaged

CECAF’s priorities are:

- to elaborate collective research projects in the field of social sciences and to find financial means to fund them - stimulates a wide national and international cooperation in the field of sociual sciences and philosophy; - to encourage the work of young researchers; - to publish the results of the research undertaken in the framework of its programs
